Christopher Nardo ’02CPS: Shaped by Purpose, Leading with Passion
Christopher Nardo ’02CPS embodies what it means to lead with purpose and passion. A native of Malverne, NY, he balanced a demanding schedule of full-time work and academic rigor while attending St. John’s University.

“If not for St. John’s, I wouldn’t be the leader, mentor, or professional I am today. The lessons I learned didn’t end at graduation—they continue to shape how I live, work, and give back.”
Today, he’s a dynamic leader in the financial services industry, crediting the University for instilling the mindset and skills that continue to shape his life and career.
Mr. Nardo came from a family with modest means and worked full time while pursuing his undergraduate degree. He took classes in Queens, NY, from 8 a.m. until noon, and then drove back to Nassau County to work an eight-hour shift at Chase Bank. After work, he returned to campus, where he remained active in the University’s vibrant music community, playing tenor saxophone with several ensembles.
“As a commuter, I was looking for that sense of community and St. John’s had an excellent music program, so I participated in Jazz Band and the pit band for musicals,” he said. “Several nights, I wouldn’t return home until 10 or 11 o’clock, but those late-night rehearsals are among my best memories. Being part of that creative energy taught me to collaborate, adapt, and perform under pressure.”
He earned his bachelor’s degree in Sport Management in 2002 from the College of Professional Studies (now, The Lesley H. and William L. Collins College of Professional Studies) and considers his time at St. John’s more than just an academic experience. “For me, St. John’s wasn’t just about earning a degree—it was about developing a mindset,” he said. “It challenged me to think critically, lead confidently, and build lasting relationships that continue to shape my life.”
After graduating, he worked in several front office, trading desk positions, including roles at notable financial institutions such as J.P.Morgan, Barclays, and Citibank. Reflecting on the foundation that helped propel his career, he explained,
“At St. John’s, I learned so many fundamental skills that are transferable to different professions, and that was key. Each professor delivered their class differently and I had to learn to adapt—and that’s how the real world works.”
That flexibility would serve him well, as he did a career pivot, transitioning from working at financial services firms to leading financial market infrastructure provider The Depository Trust & Clearing Corporation (DTCC). DTCC provides clearing, settlement, and trade reporting services for financial market participants.
“DTCC was a wonderful career opportunity to stay within the industry at an organization that is critical to the smooth functioning of the entire financial ecosystem while leveraging my practitioner experience in practical applications,” he explained. As DTCC’s Director of New Business Development and Data Services, Mr. Nardo spearheads the firm’s Business and Technology Capabilities and Solutions initiatives, leveraging innovative ideas and cutting-edge technologies to drive industry advancement. He also is the site lead for DTCC’s “Ignite” Employee Resource Group, supporting professional development for colleagues across the organization.
Mr. Nardo credits St. John’s with providing the confidence and clarity essential to his success in various roles. “If not for St. John’s, I wouldn’t be the leader, mentor, or professional I am today. The lessons I learned didn’t end at graduation—they continue to shape how I live, work, and give back.”
